For a dog, having a CGC card is a bit like a person having a driver’s license. It gives them freedom to attend dog events and even some events that don’t usually allow dogs. It lets them stay in hotel and motel rooms, and also lets them live with you in home and apartment rentals. Sometimes it lets you dine with your dog and fly with them in the cabin on some airlines. It is recognized internationally.
Due to Covid restrictions, most CGC classes were cancelled due to a lack of public venues to train and test the dogs. With the lifting on some outdoor gatherings we are again able to train and test the dogs to show good manners in public, around other dogs and people.
More than a million dogs have earned their elite CGC status since its establishment in 1989, by the American Kennel Club to promote responsible dog ownership and to encourage the training of well-mannered dogs and strengthen the bond between you and your dog at home and out in the community. These classes are hosted by evaluators from Astros Agility Adventureland.
Once your dog earns the achievement s/he becomes part of the AKC family and can participate in any of the AKC sports or programs, including Tricks, Rally, Agility, Therapy Dog, Urban Dog, Scent Dog or Fit Dog. All these programs are offered at Astro’s Agility Adventureland in Napa. Laura Dayton and Lori Ware are the two AKC evaluators who teach most of the AKC certification classes in Napa.
Classes will be held every Friday evening of every month. Total price $45, plus AKC fees. Call 707 704-3863 or to www.astrosagility.com for reservations or show up Friday evening at 5 pm.
